'60s Batman Series: Where Are They Now?

We know, this summer has been Batastic, thanks to IFC's daily marathons of the '60s series. But come out of the Batcave for a moment and see what some of the cast has been up to since the show ended.

6. Adam West

Adam West was the first actor to successfully bring The Bat to life (even though he was the third actor to do so), and the only one to portray the character in both TV and film.

After Batman, West popped up on shows like Hart to Hart, Laverne & Shirley, and The Love Boat. Since then, he’s voiced characters in Goosebumps, Animaniacs, Johnny Bravo, and multiple other Batman cartoons. But his most famous role undoubtedly since his turn as The Caped Crusader is as Mayor of Quahog in Family Guy where Adam Plays a crackpot, delusional version of himself.

5. Burt Ward

Burt was Batman’s earnest, do-gooder side kick, Robin/Dick Grayson. Undoubtedly his greatest contribution to the show and pop culture is the endless stream of Robin exclamations where he excitably shouts, “Holy... Batman, what do we do now?”

After losing the lead in The Graduate to Dustin Hoffman, Burt has mostly had roles in a number of budget films like the classic Beach Babes From Beyond and Assault of The Party Nerds 2: The Heavy Petting Detective (no, that is shockingly not a porn title).

4. Burgess Meredith

Meredith was already an esteemed stage and movie actor by the time he appeared as the Penguin. He also made a brief cameo as the character in the 1968 episode of The Monkees entitled "The Monkees Blow Their Minds."

After Batman, Burgess went on to receive multiple awards and nominations, including an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor. But it was his Oscar-nominated role as Mickey Goldmill in Rocky that he’s most remembered for. The acting legend died in 1997.

3. Julie Newmar

Newmar played the sexy villainess Catwoman. The cunning Cat was as deadly as she was beautiful, and shared a love-hate relationship with Batman.

Nowadays, the 80 year old Newmar makes the occasional panel appearance at various conventions across the country.

2. Cesar Romero

The most famous villain in pop culture, Joker was portrayed by Latin screen legend Cesar Romero. Random fact: the famously mustachioed Romero refused to shave for the role, and in some images and episodes you can tell Joker’s white makeup is covering his facial follicles.

Post-Batman, Romero made numerous guest television guest appearances, especially on Fantasy Island and The Love Boat. He passed away in 1994 at the age of 86.

1. Eartha Kitt

When Julie Newmar was unable to reprise her role as Catwoman for the third and final season of Batman, Eartha Kitt stepped in. The singer’s raspy voice gave Catwoman an even sultrier purr.

Kitt’s career continued on for another 4 decades in various film and voice over roles like Boomerang, The Matrix, and American Dad! She passed away in 2008.
