This week’s Documentary Now! goes behind-the-scenes of a famous murder case to uncover the faulty investigation and put the trial itself on trial. Don Lentile (Fred Armisen) sits in jail for the 1986 death of John Patrick Winslow, but there are many reasons that Lentile should not have been convicted of the crime, including the shady testimony of his fellow inmate (Bill Hader) and his love of the classic ’80s sitcom Mama’s Family.
Was Lentile a victim of his own weird courtroom behavior? Does he regret eating chocolates while the witnesses were testifying? Was he convicted for Winslow’s murder because the jury didn’t want a man who loudly described chocolates in court out on the streets among innocent people? Watch the clip and decide for yourself and then tune in for the full episode on Thursday, September 10th at 10p on IFC.
