Space: it’s gross. Extraterrestrial life probably won’t end up looking like Star Trek’s supporting cast. More likely, first contact will be with something totally disgusting and – for lack of a better word – alien. Get prepared with these extra-grody movie aliens.
10. The Thing
John Carpenter’s arctic classic features a shape-shifting alien from beyond the stars created by FX master Rob Bottin that’s utterly vile, especially when it gets stuck between forms.
The extraterrestrial parasite in James Gunn’s 2006 horror comedy serves up some serious gross-outs as it infects its hosts.
8. Without Warning
Sure, the effects in 1980 cheapie Without Warning aren’t the best, but there’s something innately disturbing about flying jellyfish creatures with flesh-rending mouths.
The alien creature in Stephen King adaptation Dreamcatcher is referred to as the “shitweasel,” so you can probably guess just how gross it is.
6. District 9
Neill Blomkamp’s aliens are fairly amenable, all things considered, but their fondness for cat food and slimy, prawn-like features earn them a spot on this list.
