10 Film Adaptations Loved by Authors

When you sign away the rights to your book to Hollywood, you lose control of your baby. Not always, though. We Were Soldiers, airing on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 8/7c, was adapted from a book by Joseph L. Galloway and Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore, who stated that the film “[got] it right.” Here are ten other films that their original authors loved.
10. Cloud Atlas
David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas is a novel of staggering complexity that some considered unfilmable, so to hear that he enjoyed the 2012 adaptation by Tom Tykwer and the Wachowskis is a strong recommendation.
9. Where the Wild Things Are
Turning a ten-sentence picture book into a full-length movie is a Herculean task, but Maurice Sendak was quite pleased with the adaptation of his classic, which he said “touched him very much.”
8. Fight Club
Author Chuck Palahniuk was so impressed by David Fincher’s adaptation of Fight Club that it actually made him a little embarrassed that the original book wasn’t as good.
