“Remember, remember the Fifth of November.” You’ll remember it well enough after watching V for Vendetta tonight at 8/7c or 10:45/9:45 C. The movie is an adaptation of Alan Moore and David Lloyd’s graphic novel, which has a decidedly anti-tyranny bent, but since most of us would agree that tyranny is bad, it’s hard not to get on board with the film and cheer as the fascist regime gets the tuna salad kicked out of it.
The film is set in a London of the near-future where a mysterious vigilante in a Guy Fawkes mask known only as ‘V’ (Hugo Weaving) is waging a one-man battle against the fascist regime led by the dictator-like High Chancellor Adam Sutler (John Hurt). Directed by James McTeigue from a screenplay by “The Matrix” maestros Andy and Larry (pre-Lana) Wachowski, the film follows Evey Hammond (played by Natalie Portman) as she transforms from office drone to freedom fighter (you’ll know her metamorphosis into anti-establishment butterfly is complete when she shaves her head). The film itself is dynamic thrill ride, but you’ll also want to tune in to find out why so many libertarians and anarchists and even the online group Anonymous don the Guy Fawkes mask and use the film to support their beliefs.
Watch the trailer now and then tune in tonight at 8/7c:
