Guess what we’re showing tonight? One hint: It kicks ass. Kick-Ass chronicles the misadventures of comic book geek Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) who decides to start fighting crime, even though he has no coordination or special powers. The high school student documents his ill-advised but sometimes effective vigilante shenanigans on YouTube, quickly developing a loyal following — and catching the attention of the father-daughter crimefighting duo of Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage, who enjoys being your meme) and his pint-sized but extremely deadly sidekick, Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz). Adapted from Mark Millar’s hyper-violent comic book of the same name, director Matthew Vaughn’s (who also directed Daniel Craig in Layer Cake) holds no punches in this vigilante superhero film, not even when there’s a grown man punching the tuna salad out of a little girl. Apparently when you’re telling the tale of an average New York teenager who decides to don a costume and fight crime, there are no holds or scenes barred. Which is exactly why fans love it and Kick-Ass 2 is on the way.
