Shortly after Bill Hader left “Saturday Night Live” earlier this year, he shared with Howard Stern that the host who grated on him most was Justin Bieber. Now, we’re seeing evidence of why, perhaps: SNL has leaked an unaired dress rehearsal sketch, “Song For Daddy,” which is nothing like its title might suggest or imply.
No, it’s a clothesline scene starring Hader as a frontman, with Bieber and other cast members as his band. Hader’s a grizzled country singer-songwriter who, at great length, proceeds to introduce his next song, but the twist is that his self-seriousness is offset by the silly instruments he’s prepping and who the audience in front of him turned out to be.
Only problem is that nothing worked in front of the dress-rehearsal audience, who, by the way, turned out to be Bieber super-fans. It doesn’t go over so well with the prepubescent girls — oh, and at one point, one of the stage’s walls almost falls and crushes Bieber. It’s truly spectacular, and you can watch it here, along with a commentary from Hader and the sketch’s other two writers:
