While most of us know Rick Moranis as a living comedy legend and star of such iconic movies as “Strange Brew,” “Spaceballs” and “Ghostbusters,” Rick Moranis also has enough musical talent to make most musicians jealous. While Moranis has been out of the movie industry for a while, eight years ago he put out a country-tinged musical comedy album called “The Agoraphobic Cowboy,” for which he was nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. Then he just disappeared again, leaving fans wondering, until last month when he announced that he had a new album coming out.
This week the album, titled “My Mother’s Brisket & Other Love Songs,” came out. The album is a collection of humorous songs with titles like “Kiss My Mezuzah” and “Oy, The Mistakes I Made.” As you can tell by the song names, the album explores Moranis’ his Jewish roots and upbringing. The comedian says on his official website, “When I first began writing jokes and sketches with various Jewish partners one of us would inevitably stop at some point and announce, ‘Too Jewish!’ Too Jewish for the star, the show, the network, or the audience. The songs on this album are all in that category.”
