Robert Redford recently joined “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, and he confirmed in a recent interview that he will in face be playing “the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
“The head of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” he clarified to Spinoff. ““The ‘Captain America’ thing is just a very simple thing. I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”
That means that, yes, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill will have their superior introduced in the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two. Hopefully that means that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s backstory will be delved into more — and that Redford could potentially make cameo appearances in the upcoming ABC series “S.H.I.E.L.D.” It remains to be seen when that show will make it to air, so it could be that “S.H.I.E.L.D.” debuts at around the same time as “The Winter Soldier.”
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Maximiliano Hernandez, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Hayley Atwell, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Emily VanCamp. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, it’s due in theaters on April 4, 2014.
