Three new images for “The Wolverine” have arrived.
The movie is featured in the current issue of Total Film, and ComingSoon.net uploaded scans of the pictures featured. In the coolest, which can be seen below, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine claws are covered in blood. Seems like he’s still not afraid to get his hands dirty.
In his interview with Total Film, director James Mangold opened up about the comic book origins of “The Wolverine.” “The graphic novel [Chris Claremont’s fan-favourite comic arc] is so adventurous. It plunges into these ideas of destiny, honour and revenge – as opposed to your standard superhero sagas, which are generally about some gigantic villain out to destroy the Earth, a city or a football stadium,” he said. “Japan’s such an exotic location, in the sense that language and culture play such a huge role in the movie. Usually you don’t find that at all in these kinds of films. To be staking out our own ground and be saying something unique was really liberating for me.”
Directed by Mangold, “The Wolverine” stars Jackman, Will Yun Lee and Tao Okamoto. It’s due in theaters on July 26, 2013. The full length teaser for the movie will appear online on March 27 and in theaters on March 29. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
