There’s little doubt that Tom Hanks is one of the great dramatic actors of our time and he has a pair of back-to-back Oscar wins to prove it. However, just because a guy makes us cry hysterically in a movie theater with his portrayal of a man dying from AIDS in “Philadelphia” that doesn’t mean he can’t have us doubled over in laughter as a school bus driver on the brink of losing his bachelorhood, too. After all, that’s his job. In the words of Jon Lovitz, “Acting!” So go ahead and watch “Forrest Gump” and “Band of Brothers” and “Road to Perdition,” but also watch “Bachelor Party” when we show it tonight at 8/7c and never forget that Tom Hanks is flat-out hilarious, too.
In “Bachelor Party,” Hanks plays school bus driver and professional party animal Rick who pops the question to his girlfriend (Tawny Kitaen), which shocks his friends and inspires them to throw the bachelor party to end all bachelor parties. With a suspicious fiancée, a father who isn’t thrilled with the engagement, and an ex-boyfriend determined to break up the happy couple plus a donkey and a suicidal friend, it is a bachelor party to remember. To help you remember that Tom Hanks is as good as making you laugh as he is at making you cry (we’re looking at you, “Toy Story 3”), we made a list of must-see movies. Also, never forget that Hanks started his career in “Bosom Buddies.”
Here are five of our favorite Tom Hanks comedies:
1. “The Man With One Red Shoe”
3. “Turner & Hooch”
4. “Joe versus The Volcano”
