The film image of Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange in the previously-untitled film “The Fifth Estate” has hit the web, and Cumberbatch actually does a great impression of the WikiLeaks co-founder.
The above photo comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, who confirm that principal photography has started on the film. Bill Condon directs it off of a script by Josh Singer, who adapted the story from Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book “Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange and the World’s Most Dangeous Website” and David Leigh and Luke Harding’s book “WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy.”
Cumberbatch can be seen standing next to actor Daniel Bruhl, who plays Domscheit-Berg in the film. As can be assumed by the fact “The Fifth Estate” is based on Domscheit-Berg’s book, the movie is going to be told through his character’s eyes. It will be about the creation of WikiLeaks.
Also starring in the film are Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Carice van Houten, Alicia Vikander, Dan Stevens and Peter Capaldi. It’s being made by DreamWorks and Participant Media and has no expected release date thus far.
