Christoph Waltz joins “The Muppets 2”

“The Muppets 2” just got a very exciting new cast member.
The upcoming sequel to “The Muppets” is going to star Christoph Waltz as an Interpol agent, Variety reports. This will be his first live action family-friendly film following his success in “Inglourious Basterds” and now the upcoming “Django Unchained.”
Though director James Bobin and writer Nicholas Stoller are returning for the sequel, Jason Segel isn’t. The sequel was confirmed back in April, but we haven’t heard much about it ever since. “The Muppets 2” is said to introduce plenty of new faces, and we’re assuming that includes both human and puppet characters.
Going forward, we believe that future “Muppets” movies are going to return to focusing on the classic Muppet characters. That’s at least what Stoller teased when MTV News talked to him back in April.
“I think the first movie needed to reintroduce all the characters, so we need the human-puppet duo of Gary and Walter to kind of help audience who weren’t familiar with the Muppets to learn or relearn who they are,” Stoller said. “As of now, I would say Kermit and Piggy are a little bit more at the center, like the original ones. Walter’s in there, but it’s still in the very beginning stages of writing.”
He continued, “Now Walter is a full-fledged member of the Muppets. He’s the newest member of the Muppets, so it’s kind of fun to explore that kind of comedy and that emotional stuff, but he’s now a member of the Muppets. He’s not going to leave it anymore.”
No word yet on when “The Muppets 2” is hitting theaters.
