Could another Marvel superhero be joining the team in “The Avengers 2” The latest scoop is that Ms. Marvel could enter the fray in the upcoming ensemble superhero sequel.
The Daily Mail has the news, claiming that two British actresses are actually fighting for the role right now. If the report is true, it’s pretty exciting news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in a race for the most sought-after new female role in Hollywood. Emily, star of The Young Victoria, and Ruth, from TV’s Luther, are both hotly tipped to play superhero Ms Marvel in Avengers 2, the sequel to Avengers Assemble,” Daily Mail writes.
There’s no guarantee Daily Mail‘s scoop is correct, but it would make sense for Ms. Marvel to join the team. Marvel needs more women in its line-up, and it doesn’t seem like any will be coming on board during Phase Two. If Ms. Marvel has a role in “The Avengers 2,” that could mean she’ll get a standalone film come the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Three.
We know director Joss Whedon has a soft spot for strong female leads, so hopefully he includes another superheroine in the movie in addition to Black Widow. “The Avengers 2” is due in theaters on May 1, 2015.
