What to watch tonight: “Valhalla Rising”

If your name is One Eye your career options are pretty much limited to MMA fighter, warrior, or rapper. In Nicolas Winding Refn’s mystical adventure film “Valhalla Rising” One Eye (played by James Bond baddie Mads Mikkelsen) decides to follow the warrior route because there weren’t too many options for mute giants in 1000 AD. He doesn’t take his job lightly and has defeated everyone he’s encountered, but he’s treated more like an animal than a warrior keeping him shackled and caged. The only person he has any relationship with is the young boy who brings him food and water daily. One Eye escapes, taking the young Boy (Maarten Stevenson), along with him to join up with a group of Christians in search of a Crusade and bound for Jerusalem. Sounds fun, right?
Instead they end up on an unidentified island, a lush, mist-covered forest with no animals to hunt and no food to eat … and, after a single arrow comes out of nowhere and kills one of the party, a place they come to believe could quite possibly be Hell itself.
The film’s director Nicolas Winding Refn reportedly considers “Valhalla Rising” his personal favorite of all his films. Although fans of his Ryan Gosling starring film “Drive” may disagree. Watch the trailer then tune in tonight at 9:45 p.m. ET and then decide for yourself:
