Our family is growing! We adopted a comic.
Did you know that there are needy comics right in your own backyard? Did you know that you can make a positive, permanent change in a comic’s life by spotlighting the standout work of a comic who’s hilarious work is in line with our network’s own “Slightly Off” sensibilities? We looked in our hearts, played Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” and realized that for just pennies a day, a few dollars a month we could help a comic in need as well as our community at large by making the world a funnier place. You know, for the children.
Today we are announcing our Adopt-A-Comic program, wherein we make a comic a part of our family and make the world a funnier, slightly off place. The network’s first adoptee is comedian Chris Gethard, whom you may recognize from our SXSW coverage as well as The Chris Gethard Show, Human Giant, FunnyorDie.com, and, of course, Bunk. As the newbie in our IFC family, Chris will host on-air programming, create exclusive content for this very website and more. Even better? He will also develop his very own comedy series based on his book, A Bad Idea I’m About To Do: True Takes of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure.
As IFC’s inaugural adoptee, Gethard will also host movie blocks, special programming stunts, and be
featured in network promos for IFC. He will also create original content for this very website and be involved in key IFC events with partners such as SXSW and BAM. In addition, IFC will spotlight Gethard’s comedy work, including his cable access show, podcast, book and stand-up through on-air, online and live events. IFC’s dedicated web page for the adoption will serve as an online baby book, showcasing Gethard’s previous work and his ongoing IFC activities.
Welcome to the family, Chris.
