If you went and saw “The Dark Knight Rises” in theaters this weekend (like most of you probably did), then you likely saw a teaser trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman movie, “Man of Steel,” before it. But did you know there are two versions of the trailer available? Luckily Warner Bros. released both of them over the weekend for your viewing pleasure.
Neither are nearly as cool as the extended trailer of “Man of Steel” shown at Comic-Con, but they still give a great impression of the world Snyder is bringing us to. And — surprise! — it’s not all slo-mo CGI sequences! The imagery of the little boy wearing the red cape give us chills every time we see it, and Henry Cavill does look great in the suit as we see him skyrocketing through Earth’s atmosphere. Good on you, Snyder.
The main difference between these two trailers is that the Yahoo Movies! one has a voiceover by Clark Kent’s adoptive father Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), while the MSN version is narrated by Superman’s true father Jor-El (Russell Crowe). Hopefully these two dueling perspectives that we see in these teasers are indicative of an internal debate that Clark/Superman has throughout “Man of Steel.” We might not get much of a sense of the plot of this film from these quick teasers, but that would be a great way to set up the tone of the overall movie.
“Man of Steel” stars Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Crowe, Costner, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. It is due in theaters on June 14, 2013.
