Yet another new actor has joined the cast of Jose Padilha’s “RoboCop.” Samuel L. Jackson will play an incarnation of the classic character in the upcoming remake.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jackson will play “a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world.” That sounds a lot like Bixby Snyder from Paul Verhoeven’s version of “RoboCop” to us.
Jackson will be joining Joel Kinnaman and Gary Oldman in the cast. Kinnaman is playing a redo of Alex Murphy, while Oldman is a character unique to this story. He’ll be playing a scientist who is the creator of RoboCop. “RoboCop” is due in theaters on August 9, 2013.
When IFC attended the Hero Complex Film Festival screening of “RoboCop,” original star Peter Weller shared his thoughts on the remake.
“I couldn’t give a shit,” he said. “I say you know what, god bless them, man. Go make another ‘Robocop.’ I got to tell you this: when I sat there in Dallas three weeks ago to watch this thing, I don’t know. I mean, can they throw a lot of CGI at it and so forth? The morality that’s endemic to the movie that you just watched, it’s hard to replicate.”
