Hey insomniacs/West Coasters/DVR havers, do we have a treat for you. Every Friday at 2 a.m. ET we are showing Action! And by Friday, we mean really late night on Thursdays.
Action! stars Jay Mohr, who you may recognize from “Jerry Maguire” and “Gary Unmarried” and “Suburgatory,” as Peter Dragon, an egotistical Hollywood hot-shot producer. Dragon is a Xanax popping mover and shaker who is the stereotypical over-the-top producer who everyone loves to hate, but his success speaks for itself and people put up with him. That is until Dragon’s track record of huge box-office hits stalls out when his film “Slow Torture” tanked at the box office sending him into a Hollywood-style tail spin.
Luckily for Peter, he has his entourage to support him. His inner circle ranges from a former child actress turned prostitute turned actress (Illeana Douglas) to his chief of security, Uncle Lonnie (Buddy Hackett,) a former old school LAPD detective.
The show comes from executive producers Chris Thompson (The Larry Sanders Show) and Joel Silver (The Matrix), Hollywood and its cast of characters are the intended targets of this impertinent look at the entertainment industry. Action! is a true satire on the in’s and out’s of the entertainment industry and Hollywood in particular, with a lot of insight into the world of money, fame and lies. But first and foremost it is a hilarious comedy perfectly suited to watching in the wee hours of the morning or whenever you feel like firing up your DVR.
“Action!” airs on IFC on Fridays at 2 a.m. ET
