In “Slayground,” which airs tonight at 10:15 p.m. ET, Peter Coyote plays a thief on the run after an attempt to rob an armored car in upstate New York ends in the death of a little girl. Her father sends a hitman (Philip Sayer) to avenge her death across land and sea in a trans-Atlantic chase.
Coyote has a wild resume that ranges from an anarchic improv groupe to a radical mime troupe to narrating everything from a Ken Burns’ films to a documentary called “What if Cannabis Cured Cancer.” He’s also a subtly powerful actor with an acting CV that ranges from roles in “The Jagged Edge” to “Outrageous Fortune” and television series “Commander in Chief.” Since “Slayground” is airing tonight, we are seizing the opportunity to talk about five of our favorite of Peter Coyote’s roles.
We wanted to cheat and put Coyote’s role as General Crook in “Deadwood” even though it was only one appearance in one episode, but we couldn’t find a clip, so instead in position five we have:
5. Captain Harold C. Barnes in “Sphere”
4. Ringwald in “The Legend of Billie Jean”
3. Oscar in “Bitter Moon”
2. Dennis Ryland in “The 4400”
1. Keys in “E.T.”
