Zack Snyder heads to Afghanistan with Sean Penn and Christian Bale for “The Last Photograph”

Zack Snyder is a divisive figure. For every person who raves about his unique, stunning aesthetic and eye for action, there’s another ready to disparage the director for peddling pap to the lowest common denominator fanboy. But the director may very well shed that reputation after he steps behind the camera on “The Last Photograph.”
Starring Sean Penn and Christian Bale, “The Last Photograph” was originally to be helmed by Niels Arden Oplev, who directed the Swedish “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Now, however, Twitch Film is reporting that Snyder will step behind the camera following production on the upcoming Superman movie, “Man of Steel.”
Twitch describes the movie as “the story of two men who are inspired to travel to war-torn Afghanistan by a photograph,” but fails to mention any gigantic battle-mechs, bullet-time fight sequences or glistening, muscular, near-naked men, so it sounds like a bit of a departure for Snyder. The move doesn’t come as a total surprise, however, as Snyder was already credited as both co-writer and producer on “The Last Photograph.”
