In the film “Vatel”(which airs at 1:45 p.m. ET), Gerard Depardieu plays a master chef with a genius for arranging spectacular entertainments, and he is determined that this will be a weekend that the king will always remember. But that’s before Vatel meets Anne de Montausier (Uma Thurman), a lovely courtesan traveling with the king’s party. Anne is the king’s new mistress, but that doesn’t stop Vatel from falling in love with her, and he is determined to win her heart. This, despite the fact that clearly Uma Thurman is way out of Depardieu’s league. I mean, have you looked at the two of them? However, Depardieu has made a career out of aiming for ladies who are leaps and bounds more attractive than him. Obviously a slow clap is in order, but also, a list.
Five Gerard Depardieu Roles in Order of Out of his League-ness:
5. “Tous les Matins du Monde” with Anne Brochet
4. “My Father the Hero” with Katherine Heigl (yes, she is playing his daughter, but also pretending to be his lady)
3. “Greencard” with Andie MacDowell
2.”Vatel” with Uma Thurman
1.”Camille Claudel” with Isabelle Adjani
“Vatel” airs on IFC at 1:45 p.m. ET and Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m. ET
