It’s set records as the highest-grossing female-led comedy of all time and one of the top five R-Rated comedies, and now you’ll be able to enjoy Kristen Wiig’s hilarity in the comfort of your own home. Universal has announced a September 20 release date for its sleeper hit “Bridesmaids,” a scant four months after it hit theaters.
Even though it fell under the Judd Apatow umbrella, expectations were slight for “Bridesmaids,” mostly because women-led comedies have traditionally underperformed among the important male demographic. But the film delivered solid laughs courtesy of Wiig and her fellow bridesmaids, and went on to earn over $220 million worldwide, a rousing success especially in the foreign markets where American comedies tend to be dismissed. I guess the humor inherent in shitting in a sink is universal.
“Bridesmaids” hits home video with cast and crew commentary, a gag reel, and deleted, alternate and alternative scenes. Those who pick up the Blu-ray version will get additional supplements including another gag reel, even more additional scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette and the full performance of Wilson Phillips singing “Hold On.”
