The line up at this year’s Outside Lands Music Festival has kicked the music rumor mill into high gear. Why? Because The Shins are playing. The Portland, Ore.-based band hasn’t played a show since 2009 and most people thought the band was done. As you may recall, frontman James Mercer has been busy making beautiful music with DJ Dangermouse under the moniker Broken Bells. But 24-bit is reporting that last month, Mercer played a benefit show in Portland, which included a new song. Mercer took the opportunity to announce that The Shins were working on a new album and that song would be on it. Then came the booking at Outside Lands. With all the evidence, we are voting to believe the rumors: The Shins are back.
