Born in a Muslim household in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Yuna Zarai first began playing music at age 19, in law school. She has that endearing kind of voice that can sound like a smile, if a smile could make a sound. She quickly found her stride as a singer-songwriter — a touch of Norah Jones, a sprinkle of Fiona Apple — and in 2008 she self released an EP. Her single Single “Deeper Conversation” garnered attention outside of her home country and she’s recently signed with Fader Label.
Apart from songwriting, Yuna excels at giving step by step instructions on how to set up a home studio and she owns a boutique in Malaysia called I Am Jet Fuel, an outlet for her penchant for skinny jeans, cute shoes and great scarves.
