THR reports that Lady Gaga terminated her relationship with Target after learning that the the retail chain has supported antigay candidates. She and Target were to sell a special edition of her upcoming album “Born This Way,” but canceled the deal after finding out that Target donated money to a political action committee called MN Forward that supported Tom Emmer in his bid for Minnesota governor. Emmer was an antigay candidate, who in the end, lost to Democrat Mark Dayton.
Gaga knew about the company’s political donations ahead of time and told Billboard last month that going into talks with Target, “was one of the most intense conversations I’ve ever had in a business meeting. Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past,” she explained. “Our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those groups.”
Apparently the agreement wasn’t enough, with a rep for the Fame Monster confirming that the deal is dead, or more specifically that they both, “came to a mutual decision to end their overall exclusive partnership.”
