With 2000 bands spread out over five days, the scope of SXSW Music is overwhelming. Luckily, we have SXSW veteran, Ted Leo, to guide us through the whole wide world that is the SXSW 2011 Music festival. If you don’t know Ted, get out from under that musical rock you’ve been living under, head to the iTunes store, start downloading, and get hip to what the kids are listening to these days.
Ted Leo came to indie fame in the late-’80s New York hardcore scene by playing with Citizen’s Arrest and Animal Crackers. He then moved to Washington, D.C. where he founded Chisel, a mod/punk outfit that you should already know about. When they disbanded, Ted headed up north to New York City and started playing as Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and eventually signed with Matador Records. He released his first record with them, The Brutalist Bricks, in 2010. Watch and learn and then go buy everything:
