This is a brilliant idea for a documentary: how do punk rockers, the ultimate symbols of anti-authority, deal with the pressures of the ‘other’ f word, fatherhood, the ultimate position of authority? That’s the subject of “The Other F Word,” directed by Andrea Blaugrund Nevins and based on the memoir “Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life” by former Pennywise lead singer Jim Lindberg. Lindberg’s friend (and eventual “F Word” producer) Cristin Reilly read the book, loved it, thought it would make a good movie, and brought it to Nevins.
I spoke with Nevins, Reilly, and Lindberg about the film and fatherhood (can you believe Lindberg brought his daughters to Austin for SXSW? Now that’s a cool dad) along with Morgan Spurlock, who serves as “The Other F Word”‘s executive producer.
