It’s been a big South by Southwest for me and fictional characters. A few days ago I interviewed Elmo and yesterday I met Terry Cahill, one of the two “subjects” of the “documentary” “Fubar: Balls to the Wall.” In reality, Cahill is Canadian comedian and actor David Lawrence, and “Fubar” is a mockumentary sequel to the cult comedy “Fubar” from 2002. “Balls to the Wall” finds metalheads Terry and his buddy Dean (Paul Spence) years after the first film, still partying, still getting wasted. After Dean drops acid and accidentally burns down his house, the duo decide to look for jobs working the oil sands of Northern Alberta, where partying and getting wasted are not considered severe roadblocks to employment.
I was supposed to interview “Fubar” director Michael Dowse with Terry and Dean, but Dean never made it to SXSW. You’ll have to watch the interview to find out why.
(NOTE: This interview contains adult language befitting a movie entitled “Fubar.”)
