Keith Brown, father of the pianist family group, The 5 Browns, plead guilty to sexually abusing his daughters when they were children. The plea comes at the end of six months of negotiations in which Brown, aged 55, will face sentencing representative of the laws at the time of the crimes — between the years 1990 and 1998 — laws which carry much stiffer penalties now.
According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Brown plead to “one count of first-degree felony sodomy upon a child and two counts of second-degree felony sexual abuse of a child.” He faces 10 years to life for the sodomy and 1-15 years each for the two sexual abuse counts, with concurrent sentences.
The three sisters in The 5 Browns, now adults (Desirae, 32, Deondra, 30, and Melody, 26) consented to have their names released and agreed with the plea deal for their father. “They wanted their father to take responsibility more than anything else,” Deputy Utah County Attorney David Sturgill said in a statement. “And they felt there should be a serious punishment.”
After all these years the sisters finally called the police after learning that their father, who managed them up until 2008, was planning on managing other child musicians. [THR]
