Lady Gaga gave birth to her seven-minute Sci-Fi epic “Born This Way” today. It’s hard to tell, but there’s a lot of goo and the birthing of a new “race which bears no prejudice.” Then Gaga nonsensically wields a giant machine gun and begins dancing around in her undies. I’m not one to post videos for this fame monster, but this one by director Nick Knight is actually visually interesting, outside of the amateur split screen warping effect (once a necessary frill applied to any teens’ myspace profile picture in the prior decade). This spectacle for the eyes also comes without the mindlessly grating dance track Gaga is famous for.
The pink triangle opening and closing the video is hint enough as to what she’s on about, “baby, I was born this way,” if we didn’t already know. Perhaps the appeal (and I use that word liberally) to this song is how familiar it is. Rather than giving birth, it’s clear she is in fact, just recycling Madonna.
