Wire’s influence on music is tough to gauge, but it certainly far outweighs the group’s record sales. Their 1977 debut, the punk masterpiece “Pink Flag” had an immeasurable impact on the UK music scene at the time and went on to influence bands as varied as R.E.M. to Henry Rollins’ Black Flag.
Their new record “Red Barked Tree,” their 12th studio release, was written and recorded in 2010 by three of the four original members, Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey. No gimmicks, no guests, just Wire.
A few streams have popped up online, below is the third track, “Adapt.” The full album is streaming on NPR’s First Listen.
