Premaking “Up”

Posted by Matt Singer on
Ivan Guerrero, the talented YouTube user who previously impressed us with his “premake” trailer for “The Avengers,” is back with another ingeniously edited piece. His “premake” gimmick is easy to explain and, I’m sure, very difficult to accomplish: essentially he imagines a film as made by the stars and creators of an earlier era. “The Avengers” became a 1940s serial, and now Disney/Pixar’s CGI animated “Up” becomes a live action film from the 1960s starring a “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”-era Spencer Tracy and Kirk Douglas. The effect is surprisingly convincing:
If you enjoy the trailer, make sure you also watch Ivan’s annotated version, which explains what movie each shot comes from and compares it to images from “Up” that inspired it. Good work, Ivan. Keep them coming.
