Lia Ices “Grown Unknown”

Posted by Brandon Kim on
Avant pop seductress, Lia Ices, makes music that conjures the kind of flowery melancholy of Cat Power, if wreathed in a few lions and cobras a la SinĂ©ad O’Connor. Her Jagjaguwar debut, “Grown Unknown” releases on January 25th.
Listen to album’s title track, which Vogue has called “a true sonic exploration,” beautiful and a bit menacing, just how we like it.
If that reminds you just a little of the title theme from the 80’s, alien invasion, TV epic “V” then I’d say you’re spot on, and you’re also a huge, lovable nerd who deserves all these free downloads. This couldn’t be ignored:
Another stand out track on the album “Daphne,” the only duet (wait for it), has guest Justin Vernon of Bon Iver on vocals with Ices. Download “Daphne” here.
Lia Ices heads out on her band’s first tour now, with dates supporting The Cave Singers following. Both bands will appear at SXSW this March at the Jagjaguwar showcase. Have a glimpse of Ices in the studio:
