One fact of modern living is that we know that marketing and advertisements basically tell us honeyed lies about products and experiences. Most people let that stand on the hopes that there’s at least some truth to be found in the hype. Moreover, there’s humor and insight to be found in all that buzz-generating machinery.
Over at Eurogamer, John Teti’s crafted three videos that take the piss out of the hype machines for some of gaming’s biggest franchises. Whether it’s calling out what the user-generated content capabilities of “LittleBigPlanet 2” get used for or speculating on the absurdities of “Sims” proliferation, Teti’s mock trailers do more than just lampoon the over-promising most game companies traffic in. The ersatz spots also turn the magnifying glass back onto EA, Sony and the like, collectively speaking for gamers and saying, “Hey, we know what you’re up to and it looks ridiculous.” Head on over and watch.
