“Civilization IV” Theme Nabs First Ever Video Game Grammy Nomination

Sid Meier’s long-running “Civilization” strategy series is all about history, so it’s fitting that it could make some of its own. The theme song to the 2005 release “Civilization IV” has been nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists’, marking the first time that music originally composed for a video game has ever been up for the music industry’s highest honor. The rousing track in question is “Baba Yetu,” which later wound up on Tin’s album “Calling All Dawns.” That 2009 CD is up for a Grammy in two categories, ‘Best Classical Crossover Album’ and the above-mentioned instrumental/vocalist category.
Tin’s also done music for animation and film, as well, with contributions to “X2: X-Men United” and “Lilo and Stitch 2.” You can find out more about Tin at tinworksmusic.com.
