In 2005 Patron Saint Judd Apatow brought us Steve Carell as “The 40 Year Old Virgin.” The film was written and directed by Apatow and co-written with Steve Carell. It follows the misadventures of Andy, the eponymous virgin, as he attempts to rid himself of that particular title. What ensues is a screwball comedy of epic proportion. In his sad attempts to get laid, wacky hijinks lead the way: Andy gets vomited on, he kicks a girl in the face, his friends hire him a prostitute, and, eventually, he finds love. With Catherine Keener nonetheless!
As with most Apatow movies, the cast is stellar: Along with Steve Carell and Catherine Keener, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Romany Malco, Jane Lynch, Elizabeth Banks and even Mindy Kaling all feature. Jonah Hill and Loudon Wainwright stop by for a moment, too.
The film also brought us the second most famous waxing scenes in film and television history (the other being when they waxed Mr. Clean’s head, but that footage has been both long lost and also entirely fabricated)
Andy may not have just fallen off the turnip truck, but he’s apparently never seen The Crying Game:
Aw, heck, the movie is fun. Let’s just watch the whole trailer:
