Deadline reports that Tom Cruise has been offered a role in New Line’s film adaptation of the Broadway musical, “Rock of Ages.” He would play a bartender who presumably has a penchant for 80’s hair rock like Foreigner and Journey, maybe a little Pat Benatar.
We know Cruise can lip sync like a boss and his recent incarnation as Les Grossman in “Tropic Thunder,” convinced me that he can pull off anything — I’m almost ashamed now that I disliked him for over a decade. Speaking of Les Grossman, Ben Stiller confirmed that work is still being done on a “Tropic” spin-off all about the vulgar producer.
“Les Grossman is notoriously difficult to negotiate with, so we’re right now negotiating with him because he wants to play himself in the film,” Stiller told MTV News. “And he’s kind of a bully, and he’s very argumentative, and he’s a little bit abusive. I want to try to get Tom Cruise to play him,” Stiller added. “So if I can get Tom Cruise, who’s interested to play him, if Les will agree not to play himself, then it looks like it could be coming together. A script is being written now.”
