Elmo and crew cold dropped Christian gospel rock-turned-Top 40 pop floozy, Katy Perry, from an upcoming episode of “Sesame Street.” Parents “complained of her skimpy, cleavage-baring top” after viewing an advance video of her segment on YouTube, reports Live Feed.
It’s hard to agree with the reason when you see the dress she was wearing — if it’s inappropriate it’s only because it’s hideous, not because it’s too revealing. The news is particularly harsh when you consider that Perry told EW, “It was the highlight of my entire career,” after she shot the segment with the annoying muppet. I’d be lying if I said I felt bad after a good chuckle.
In defense of featuring the poor man’s Zooey Deschanel in the first place, PBS said, “We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver. We also value our viewer’s opinions and particularly those of parents.”
In stark contrast to that irritating spectacle, watch Norah Jones show how you can have a respectable appearance on the show even with Elmo. Still, no one rocks “Sesame Street” like Stevie (and that kid going buck wild on the balcony):
