Warm up your listless glamour slave, the season finale of “True Blood” is coming up this Sunday September, 12th. In anticipation of this I sought out music supervisor Gary Calamar, who is the force behind “True Blood’s” incredible music.
It’s not a secret, but many people don’t know that each episode of “True Blood” is titled after a song that’s featured in that episode. So last season’s finale, “Beyond Here Lies Nothin'” is titled after the Bob Dylan song of the same name, which is used in the episode. This season’s premiere was “Bad Blood,” after a Beck song of the same title, and so on.
These title and song ideas grow out of the writing at early stages and it’s not always an easy task to have all the pieces fall into place in the end. But Calamar, veteran music supe of “Weeds,” “Six Feet Under,” “House M.D.” and others, makes it happen each week. This is on top of generally nailing the job of setting this sexed-up creep fest in the deep south to great music, often using local music legends to capture the vibe.
Watch for a full interview with Calamar here next week. In the meantime, this coming season finale is called “Evil Is Going On.” It’s titled after “True Blood” soundtrack regulars, Jace Everett and CC Adcock’s, collaboration of the same name.
