Foreign Born, and a tune by Swan Lake
Posted by Brandon Kim on
This video of LA band, Foreign Born, turned up on Swedish TV recently, and it’s pretty cute. The cut is a song called “Blood Oranges” off of their upcoming June 23rd release on Secretly Canadian. It sounds drastically different from the album version, which plays more like a Michael Mann directed street firefight between The Walkmen and the cast of Miami Vice.
My guy Kevin D sends me all kinds of music, and although it’s his job, I think they always have a little extra love packaged with ’em. Here’s another by Foreign Born I can share.

Also on my play list today is this song by Swan Lake called “Spanish Gold, 2044.” Swan Lake is Daniel Bejar (of Destroyer and New Pornographers), Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade) and Carey Mercer (of Blackout Beach). And I can’t stop listening to them. The record’s called Enemy Mine (and is already out on Jagjaguwar). If you’re even half awake you’ll recognize that title from the 1985 Dennis Quaid/Louis Gossett Jr. Sci-Fi flick of the same name. That’s enough to listen to this mp3 them right there, you ask me. That little alien kid Zammis that Quaid got stuck with was such a burn up, what a home wrecker. But I think that’s a great name for a Dog, or maybe Swan Lake’s next record.

Maybe in the near future I’ll have players with strobe lights but these will do for now. No gifs of dancing mortgage brokers included.
