Earlier this year at SXSW, while I was watching My Morning Jacket in a small club show, I thought to myself, “Why in the heck aren’t these guys playing arenas?” Their sound, stage moves, improvisational skills, and epic back-lighting were screaming for a bigger venue.
Well, I guess I got my wish.
It was just announced that My Morning Jacket will not only be playing the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, but will be doing it on the biggest night of the year, New Year’s Eve. Finally, something in the world of music makes perfectly good sense!
The little Kentucky band that could is taking a page out of King Kong’s book and conquering New York City in 2008. Not only did they perform on Saturday Night Live, but they played a sold-out show at Radio City Music Hall (which sold out in a little over 20 minutes) and will cap the year off with a New Year’s Evil Urges party at MSG.
