If you’re Michael Beasley (Miami Heat), Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jerryd Bayless (Indiana Pacers), or Donte Green (Houston Rockets), life’s gotta be good right about now.
Last night they all got drafted into the NBA, and instead of studying for finals, they’ll be paid millions of dollars for slam dunking leather basketballs into iron hoops. On top of all of that, they’re featured in Adam Yauch’s (Beastie Boys) brand new basketball documentary, Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot, which hits theaters today.
(above: So if I’m Michael Beasley, am I more excited to be the #2 pick in the NBA draft? Or to be featured in a documentary made by a Beastie Boy?)
Talk about instant gratification. Just two summers ago, Yauch filmed the documentary, and on the night before it’s released, four of the film’s stars are already basking in NBA glory. No need to wait out the five or six years (ala Hoop Dreams) to see if the young stars can chase down destiny and play professional basketball for a living.
Yauch will be conducting a Q&A session tonight at the AMC Village Theater (NYC), following the 7PM and 9PM screenings of the film.
