Moby: New Album, Free Music for Filmmakers, & One Pissed-Off Chicken
Posted by Jim Shearer on
Moby, makes his triumphant return this Tuesday, April 1, as he releases his brand new dance-inspired, Last Night, a loosely based concept album following around the lovable bald-headed socialite as he bounces from club to club on a NYC night. Dance fans will be happy to know that Moby, who has been known to shelve his groovin’ beats for more experimental fodder, returns to the dance floor on Last Night, especially on its lead single, “Disco Lies.” Speaking of which, if you ever wanted to see a pimped-out chicken get medieval on Colonel Sanders’ ass, this Even Bernard directed clip is probably right down your alley.
(below: There’s a saying: “What goes around, comes around.” In the following clip, Colonel Sanders gets his.)
In addition to releasing a new album and a video with a vengeful chicken, Moby recently established an initiative called MobyGratis, which gives independent and non-profit filmmakers FREE music to use in their respective films. Moby explains, “I hope that somehow this will enable filmmakers to spend their time making films and not calling up record companies trying to license music.”
All of the music is available for free as long as it is used in a not-for-profit context. If the filmmakers do find a commercial outlet for their work, there will be a simple license provided to facilitate the “for profit” transaction. Any resulting proceeds will go to charity.
