The festival awards were announced last night — the full list is here. Some highlights:
Special Jury Prize – Outstanding Visual Achievement – "Inner Circle Line," Dir. Eunhee Cho
Winner – "High Score," Dir. Jeremy Mack
Lone Star States
Winner – "AMERICANese," Dir. Eric Byler
So, two for "AMERICANese," which we failed to see, despite liking Byler’s earlier "Charlotte Sometimes." And, even with a particularly strong doc competition this year, we were certain Neel and Meyer’s crowd-pleaser "Darkon" would win the audience prize — ah, we do so love being right.
The music types are pouring into the convention center, a sea of black t-shirts and artfully disheveled hair. We’re about to hop on a plane home, and will hopefully write up some of the massive backlog of films we saw here on the flight, though more realistically we’ll beg a Xanax off of someone and just spend the entirety of the way home drooling onto the window. Thanks, IFC, for sending us; thanks, SXSW, for being such a great time.
While we’re in transit, do check out the blog being written by the filmmakers of IFC’s original doc "Rank," which had its premiere at the festival, and which is screening once more on Saturday for y’all who’ll still be in Austin. Also, IFC News on-air host Matt Singer has some festival dispatches of his own.
