How good is "Serenity"? It’s so good that… we’re out of metaphors. But hell, we’re been writing far-too-lengthy write-ups all week — and despite this, and averaging two screenings a day, we’re seriously considering going to see it again this weekend.
Also, on an odd note, Monday’s the deadline for foreign-language film sobmissions to the Academy for Oscar consideration. A few late submissions: Chen Kaige‘s "The Promise" for China, Peter Chan‘s "Perhaps Love" for Hong Kong (the Academy "nation" designation always being mighty intriguing), Hany Abu-Assad‘s "Paradise Now" for Palestine (see what we mean?), Amol Palekar‘s "Paheli (Puzzle)" for India, and Reza Mir-Karimi‘s "Too Far, Too Close" for Iran. Also, as we recall, Korea is going with "Welcome to Dongmakgol," not "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance." From Variety and somewhere else…too tired for links.
