Trailers: One for "Crónicas," a thriller from Ecuadorian director Sebastián Cordero, starring John Leguizamo, is here. It’s played at Cannes, Toronto and Sundance, but somewhere on the path to the theaters got saddled with one mother of a awful tagline. And a trailer for "The Aristocrats" is here.
By way of Empire, director David Dobkin, whose "Wedding Crashers" opens next Friday, will next be working on "I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry," a comedy about a pair of Philadelphia firemen who pretend to be gay in order to get health benefits. AND….the screenplay will be written by "Sideways" director Alexander Payne, along with his writing partner Jim Taylor.
Film Stew reports that Ryan Fleck‘s Sundance award-winning short "Gowanus, Brooklyn" is being expanded into a feature length film, "Half Nelson," with Ryan Gosling and Anthony Mackie. Over at the Hollywood Reporter: the US film industry, having exhausted all obvious J-horror remakes, has now turned to writing its own J-horror. Are there no ghosts in other countries? We’ve heard promising things about Eastern Europe, plus Prague is really the new Toronto when it comes to cheap places to shoot.
Dark Horizons reports that Leonardo DiCaprio‘s production company Appian Way will develop and produce a film version of Kurt Vonnegut‘s "Cat’s Cradle." As much as we love Vonnegut’s novels, no one’s yet made a particularly good film based on one.
