That Was Awkward

David Cross Takes Us Behind-The-Scenes of “Todd Margaret”

Posted by on

In the second season of David Cross’ “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” there are no end of awkward situations. In fact, Todd Margaret’s poor decisions seem specifically designed to give the entire audience an ab work out because as we all know cringing for an hour is the secret to tight stomach muscles. We get our information from the internet so it has to be accurate, right? In a recent episode of “Todd Margaret,” Todd ended up at a hen party, which is just a classy Britishism for a bachelorette party. While bachelorette parties are usually filled with raunchy games, sexual innuendo, inappropriate jokes, and an anything goes attitude, there is one thing that should never ever be brought to a hen party: Todd Margaret. The show’s writer, star, and creator David Cross takes us behind the action of one of the most awkward scenes in “Todd Margaret” history. Which we all know, really means something.

We’re barely halfway through February, but this year’s Too Many Cooks Award for the most bizarre comedy project is already a lock. Blindsiding the world with greatness without any warning, Funny or Die released a 50-minute Donald Trump parody starring an unrecognizable Johnny Depp as Donny.

Ron Howard introduces this “lost” 1988 TV movie adaptation of Trump’s how-to manual The Art of the Deal produced with the retro quality of a Wendy’s training video. Along for the big hair and shoulder pads flashback are Patton Oswalt, Alfred Molina, Todd Margaret‘s Jack McBrayer, Andy Richter, Rob Huebel, Jason Mantzoukas, Paul Scheer, and Michaela Watkins as Ivana — as well as many Reagan-era surprises like a cameo from that loveable cat eater ALF and a theme song by Kenny Loggins.

Much like Eric Jonrosh of The Spoils Before Dying and The Spoils of Babylon fame, “Trump” writes, directs, and narrates his own epic tale of real estate wheelings-and-dealings. Check out the trailer below, and head over to Funny or Die to watch the full Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal movie before the real Donald sics his army of lawyers on Will Ferrell and company. (For more bizarro Johnny Depp characters, be sure to catch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this month on IFC.)

David Cross takes up “Cat Soup” hosting duties

When he’s not starring in his hit IFC series “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,” David Cross is on the prowl for cats of all shapes, sizes and innuendos. That’s probably how he got himself hooked up as the host of E!’s new fake web series, “Cat Soup,” the home (as he puts it) for clips of “cats, kitties, felines and other furry animals who happen to be cats, doing things that are cute and adorable.”

With segment names like “Le Petit Pussie,” you can probably imagine what’s in store. Check it out below, and then tune into IFC every Friday at 10:30/9:30c for new episodes of “Todd Margaret.”

After last year’s Comic Con panel where David Cross and H. Jon Benjamin wrestled and then teased each other for half an hour while ostensibly discussing “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,” we sat down with David to get his actual thoughts on the series. In this interview David answers the question that is on everyone’s minds, “Who is Todd Margaret?”
