As you may have heard, hockey teams in the NHL have had a lot of free time on their hands lately. While the labor dispute and resulting lock-out is finally over and teams are starting to strap on their skates, pick up their sticks and hit the ice, the teams had a lot of time to sit around and catch up on all their favorite television shows. When it comes to the LA Kings, turns out that they spent their off season watching Portlandia. Yep, Fred Armisen’s and Carrie Brownstein’s sketch comedy show is big in LA (we’re united in our hatred of Seattle!) The LA Kings are huge fans of Portlandia, so they joined the Portlandia Co-Op and submitted an application to be guest tweeters. Can you guess what happened next? That’s right the LA Kings are taking over the Portlandia Twitter feed this week. Byaayyy! Follow along @IFCportlandia.

When the LA Kings hit the ice and finally start their season , Portlandia fans can teach LA Kings fan how to chant “Please Please Win! Meow meow meow!”:

Scott Aukerman Is Hitting the Road for a Comedy Bang! Bang! Live Tour

Scott and Comedy Bang! Bang! are coming to a town near you.

Comprised of countless characters, hilarious guests, and running gags, Comedy Bang! Bang! simply can’t be contained in just its podcast and TV forms. As such, host Scott Aukerman is taking the show and its oddball cavalcade on the road in a brand new live tour. Fan favorites Lauren Lapkus, Paul F. Tompkins, and Neil Campbell will be along for the ride (either as themselves, as their show personas, or both — we’re not at liberty to say!), and there will surely be a few surprise drop-ins as well. And maybe…a little magic?

Scott Magic

We all know that we’re supposed to eat healthy. Our parents have pounded Eat Your Vegetables! into our heads since we were kids. But the honest truth is that sometimes vegetables can be a wee bit hard on the digestive system and while we know dark leafy greens are chockfull of vitamins, they are also full of, well, gas. Portlandia knows your dark secrets and is willing to air them out …so long as any and all such airing takes place in the designated area a.k.a. the fart patio.

In this sneak peek clip from the brand new episode of Portlandia, which airs Friday at 10/9c, Malcolm (Fred Armisen) and Kris (Carrie Brownstein) decide to start eating healthy by having lunch at a local raw vegan restaurant. However, their lunch time suddenly becomes uncomfortable as Malcolm and Kris realize eating raw food can have some side effects.

Watch this clip and be sure to tune in this Friday and be on the look out for guest star Juliette Lewis (Conviction, Natural Born Killers) as she drops by Portlandia for a special visit.

Watch Portlandia’s Fred Armisen play with Yo La Tengo on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

What are three great tastes that are better together? Peanut butter and chocolate, pickles and whiskey and Yo La Tengo and Fred Armisen. So last night we sat on our couch eating Reese’s peanut butter cups, drinking picklebacks and watching Portlandia’s own Fred Armisen play drums with Yo La Tengo on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Fred and Yo La Tengo go way back, most recently he joined the band for a string of Hanukkah shows in Hoboken. So it wasn’t a huge surprise to see him on stage with Yo La Tengo (who Jimmy Fallon appropriately called “one of the most beloved bands in indie rock”), but it was a nice one. The group played a few songs off of their brand new album, Fade with Fred drumming alongside Georgia Hubley in a blazing three drum performance of the album’s opener “Ohm.” As their performance reminded viewers last night, Yo La Tengo are pretty much the best. The New Jersey group has been putting out such consistently great albums for so many years that some people (us included) have started to take them for granted. No more! Their new album is incredible and everyone should go buy it right now. Go ahead, we’ll wait. While you’re waiting for the songs to download, watch Yo La Tengo and Fred play “Ohm”:

And as a web exclusive, Yo La Tengo showed their gentler side with a performance of “I’ll Be Around” off the new LP:
