Ten Milestones in French Cinema
2008 - "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" becomes highest grossing French film of all time
An unexpected box-office smash, actor/director Danny Boon's regional comedy "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" (loosely translated as "Welcome to the Sticks"), which endearingly pokes fun at the inhabitants of France's northernmost region, grossed over $190 million, making it the most successful French film of all time, and the second highest grossing film in France after "Titanic". Surprisingly enough, it's never been distributed in the States, though a Will Smith-produced remake is in the works.
